The Cupuaçu butter has many properties that make it suitable for use on skin, hair, lips and nails. It is a triglyceride (lipid or fat) with a balanced composition between saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, which gives it a low melting point, of approximately 30 °C, making it very easy to use as it melts and absorbs quickly upon contact with the skin.
The Cupuaçu butter is a natural product of vegetable origin, its texture is similar to a paste, of whitish colour and it is used mainly to combat the dryness of the skin and hair as it is able to maintain hydration due to its high liquid absorption capacity, which is 120% higher than lanolin.
Benefits to the skin
The Cupuaçu butter is an emollient that provides a pleasant touch, softness and nutrition to the skin, enabling the recovery of its natural moisture and elasticity through the replacement of lipids (fats), especially on dry and mistreated skin caused by external aggression. In addition, the cupuaçu butter contains several beneficial fatty acids including palmitic, stearic and oleic acids and many polyphenols and phytosterols.
Benefits to the hair
The Cupuaçu butter promotes smoothness and hydration to the hair, increasing its natural moisture and elasticity, giving the hair better conditioning due to its high water absorption power, and thus preventing dehydration. It is ideal for brittle and dry hair promoting the sealing of cuticles and providing a healthy shine.
Cupuaçu Butter Sustainable Production
Kaora’s cupuaçu butter is produced via a sustainable method whereby the cupuaçu fruits are harvested in the forest once they have ripened and fallen to the ground. The local families located on the banks of the Amazon River collect the fruits, remove the pulp with scissors and the residues that remain on the seeds are washed away.
The butter is then extracted from the seeds, which contain approximately 45% of oil, by a natural cold pressing process, then passing through a filtration process which is free of any additives. This method has two key advantages over other non traditional methods. Firstly, the butters produced are superior in quality, and more stable. Secondly, the husks and other residues produced during the manufacturing process are used as natural fertilisers, reducing waste and therefore the impact to the environment.
Apart from providing a unique and very effective ingredient for cosmetic use, the production of cupuaçu butter represents a sustainable source of income for the local residents and reduces their reliance on other less environmentally friendly income sources.
